With a starting point in the early 19th century, Sit Happens tells a story of one evening. Through an installation set in the fictional rooms of Netherfield Park, the project considers how place and body interact, and explores the dynamics and hierarchy among a set of individuals.

The project aims to address the question of how space, gender, and class interact and shape how we move and interact with our surroundings.

With a significant emphasis on literature and exploration with the body, both academic and fictional work is at the core, with Sara Ahmed’s Towards a Queer Phenomenology and Jane Austen’s literary classic Pride and Prejudice serving as frameworks for the project.

Sit Happens revolves around furniture pieces, in 1:1 scale, where each object represents one of the individuals present during the evening. The furniture becomes a physical representation of these characters, what they symbolize and their bodies' abilities and obstacles in the room.
