A pile of twigs, a lonely egg. The city pigeons build their nests where they can – on balconies, under bridges, in crevices of façades. Once our allies as carrier pigeons, now despised pests, they build their nests in the margins of the city. Despite poor conditions, they survive, always a part of the urban landscape.

The housing shortage in Sweden has become acute, but where are all the homes? The inaugural issue of the zine UTKAST addresses the topic of everybody's right to a place to live, exploring ideas of the home, the house, and the city through the lens of housing as a human right (Art. 25, UN-UDHR, 1948).

UTKAST is published by Fältstudio, and aims to approach complex themes through a collage of diverse perspectives.
